MU! COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION ÉVORA!

and here´s Évora…

More or less one month ago i was invited along Kruella and a really nice group of young artists to show some illustrations in Évora, at a beautiful gallery!

some times these shows can be boring because we send some works and sometimes we get pictures of the opening, but that´s it. This time was different, all the artists were invited to come and stay for a few days in this chilled out town in Alentejo, the group was awesome, the organisation was a bunch of nice people and we even had a mascott, the cool cow MU!
the show was super nice, we made new connections, had the chance of showing some less known works and honestly, it felt like mini vacations!

thank you a lot MU guys and thank you fellow artists for the good time!

ORFEU WAS A BLAST!

Some time ago i was invited along with Kruella D´Enfer to participate ina a massive collective show created by a collective called ORFEU, which i had never heard about before, so it looked cool, but i had no expectations about it…

I had planned only to show screenprints from previous shows, but i got “dragged” by Angela´s creative fever and ended up showing 2 new pieces which where fun as hell to make, and some one of a kind greeting cards, yeah, i stole the idea from her cards…

First off all, the space is amazing, a two floors huge old warehouse, in the center of Lisboa, so it was really impressive to see it filling up as the night went on!
The event was dope as hell, showing amazing artists, starting with some nice lectures from Dj Ride and Alva but the rest of the night dedicated to sushi, moscatel and partying with loads of friends who showed up, as a cool line up of djs gave a nice soundtrack to a great night!
congrats fellas, i want to see more of this!

O que ontem era tecnologia de ponta, hoje é uma pirâmide de lixo. Vivemos numa sociedade consumista que nos incentiva a acumular objectos, um contraste entre a obsessão de nos arruinarmos na compra do produto mais moderno e o desprezo total por objectos que rapidamente se tornam obsoletos, inúteis.

A intervenção procura mostrar esta realidade em que uma perspectiva distorcida rapidamente se torna clara, sendo tudo uma questão de ponto de vista.

O espaço onde se insere a JOIO não podia ser mais oportuno, o Tribunal da Boa Hora, outrora um símbolo do poder da sociedade moderna, da justiça, hoje é um edifício devoluto, abandonado, esquecido por não se adequar aos parâmetros da mesma.

What yesterday was high technology, today is a pyramid of garbage. We live in a consumerist society that encourages us to accumulate objects, a contrast between the obsession of ruining ourselves with  the purchase of the most modern product and the complete disregard for items that quickly become obsolete, useless.

The intervention seeks to show this reality in which a distorted perspective quickly becomes clear, since everything is a matter of point of view.
The Court of Boa Hora,once a symbol of power in modern society, of justice, today is a building vacant, abandoned, forgotten for not fitting the parameters of this same society which makes this builing the most appropriate place to display an intervention with this theme.

This has been a crazy week but my latest artwork is finally finished!
so many logistic problems for starters, we had to find tons of useless technologic objects, bring them to Lisbon, carry them to a second floor that looked like we were climbing  the stairs of that lord of the rings castle, to be on a very beautiful but closed space painting all the objects for 5 days, i can honestly say that my lungs are now in rojo fiebre color. The space is amazing, the old building of the Court of Boa Hora, a decay building full of abandoned court rooms, old files spread all over, a writers delight…

first step was done after a few long days, but then both our laptops got sabotaged by lazy battery chrgers, and then we got the horrible news, we had no video projector…
thanks to the fine gents from UAT, we got some oldshool flavor retroprojector that was good enough for the circle but not for the lettering, the nightmare had returned!

well, after lots of stressful moments, we finally got this piece finished, not thanks to the evil lord of the court of Boa Hora, aka the ugly girl with the moustache…

BOA É A VIDA, MELHOR É O VINHO ///WINE TALKS & ARTS (making of.)

Last weekend ended my last group show, WINE TALKS & ARTS, the event was amazing, with cool artists, great wine and a beautiful gallery!

i set a big challenge for myself on this exhibition, i got the idea to create a 4×2 meter wood pannel engraved with some machines i had never seen before, on a technique i had never worked in my life and for making it even more interesting, i drew a puzzle like lettering to illustrate on the pannel…

thanks to the huge help from Claudio Cigarro and my partner in crime Kruella (who had quite a challenge herself for this show), i got to start and finish this artwork on 4 days, stressfull as hell, i won some bruses, not much sleep, multiple problems along the way, but the final result was worth the while, the feedback was awesome and now i look forward to work on this technique again!

SPRAY KID /// PUSH CLICK SHOW!

these last few weeks have been hectic, 3 shows in 15 days, working non-stop, but i have to say, doing what i really love, illustrating and experimenting for shows in cool galleries, with dope artists, around great friends!
this artwork is called “SPRAY KID” and it was created for the Push Click Group Show at the Montana Shop & Gallery Lisboa! Gotta love 8-bit graphics…

i also have a cool 3 color screenprint for sale at the gallery, but i will post very soon some pics of it!
